The DS9/NEM "captain jacket" lacked the action pleats on the back of its duty jumpsuit counterpart; like the formal jackets and admiral jackets of the era, it instead simply had body panel seams that mirrored those on the front of the jacket.

Like the front body panel seams, the back body panel seams were not vertical; neither did they extend all the way to the armscye like the jumpsuits' action pleats did. Instead, they angled slightly downward toward center, forming a slightly trapezoidal (rather than rectangular) shape.
