Evolution of the DS9/NEM Jacket, part 2

Deep Space Nine "upgraded" to the new duty uniforms almost immediately after First Contact's theatrical release in the mid-fifth season episode "Rapture," and although the latter had had rounded front openings and shoulder points, Deep Space Nine mitered both right off the bat:

However, the Sisko initially wore an odd variation of this jacket that had a fully closed front; it did not have the V-shaped front opening seen on the other DS9/NEM duty uniforms, nor did it have DS9/NEM-style sleeve cuffs.

(His communicator was also "incorrectly" placed on the yoke, rather than on the main body - whoops.)

This version of the DS9/NEM "captain jacket" is what we call the "Sisko variant."

In the following episode, "The Darkness and the Light," the Sisko wore both his variant and the version he would wear the remainder of the show.

Those early days were a bit rough, though, and not just with the jackets (see our DS9/NEM duty jumpsuit analysis for more than you ever wanted to know about this); unfortunately, the costuming department didn't seem to get the memo about hiding the zipper pull ...

Thankfully, that issue was quickly resolved.

The Sisko's jackets continued to have an effectively hidden zipper through the end of the series, and the other jackets seen here and there either did as well or had no zipper installed (obviously, when worn open).
